Ashnan Lower-Hive was a completely enclosed environment. The use of flood-lights high upon the cavenous interior's roof maintained a crude day-night cycle, and the temperature was kept fairly constant by archeo-tech none now understand. Most importantly of all, however, was the air-filtration system which kept everyone from suffocating. Usually it could not be heard over the din of lower-hive life, but in sparsely populated areas you could sometimes make out a constant hiss, the decrepitd city's wheezing breath constantly being drawn in.
